ORDINARY GLASS

Generally used for most residential windows, ordinary glass is available in many thicknesses. This type of glass is easy to cut and can be processed in minutes.

LAMINATED SAFETY GLASS

Another relatively easy-to-cut glass, laminated glass doesn't shatter like ordinary (float) glass. Instead, it creates a "spider web" effect that spans across the glass. The bonded vinyl helps to keep the glass from fragmenting, making it the safer option for most applications.

TEMPERED GLASS

Designed to shatter into many pieces, tempered glass is the hardest to cut. Due to the thermal treatments, this glass must be handled differently, increasing the cut time. Tempered glass is found in many applications, including vehicles and storefronts where large glass chunks could cause major injuries.

frequently asked questions

DO I HAVE TO USE THE SAME TYPE OF GLASS FOR MY CUSTOM PROJECT?

No, if you would prefer using a different type of glass, you can. Unless it affects the structural integrity, there’s no reason you can’t go from ordinary to tempered glass, or the other way around.

I DON’T WANT MY GLASS TO BREAK AGAIN! WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR MY PROJECT?

Generally, you can use either laminate or tempered. For high-use, high-impact situations, you should use laminated safety glass. For larger pieces, you may want to consider tempered.

WHAT’S THE PROPER GLASS THICKNESS FOR MY PROJECT?

This is dependent on the type of project. Picture frames don’t have to be very thick. However, windows need to be thicker to ensure strength. If you have questions, be sure to ask your glass cutting specialist beforehand.
